BEATLES NO ROYAL VARIETY PERFORMANCE - 1963

O Royal Variety Performance é um evento anual, realizado no palácio de Buckingham, cuja platéia é composta, em grande parte, pelos membros da família real britânica. O evento é organizado em nome do Fundo Benevolente de Artistas de Entretenimento, do qual a Rainha Elizabeth é a patronesse. Todos os rendimentos obtidos no show são doados ao fundo.

John Lennon, em 1963, um moleque de 23 anos que já dava provas da sua irreverência e humor agudo, falou à platéia, entre um número e outro:

“Para o nosso último número, eu gostaria de pedir a ajuda de vocês: o pessoal dos lugares mais baratos só batam palmas e o resto de vocês chacoalha as joias. Obrigado.”

Detalhe para a então Rainha-Mãe, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, cheia de jóias e agradecendo meio sem saber o que fazer.
